A MacBook at This Price? Really?
As someone who’s stuck with Windows laptops for years—mostly for the price-to-performance ratio—hearing rumors about a $599 MacBook caught my attention. If Apple actually releases a MacBook at that price point, it could shake things up in the budget laptop market. And I’ll admit, even I’d be curious enough to give it a serious look.

Even at a lower price, Apple is unlikely to compromise on design. We’ve come to expect a sleek, lightweight build with a premium finish, and I don’t think that will change much. Maybe it won’t have the full aluminum chassis or the thinnest bezels, but it’ll still look and feel better than most $600 Windows laptops.
Features – Cutbacks, But Still Apple
To hit $599, Apple will have to trim some features. I wouldn’t expect a Retina display or a ton of ports, but even a basic MacBook with a solid trackpad, good speakers, and macOS would offer a polished experience. Honestly, that alone could make it a solid pick for students or casual users.
Performance – The Apple Silicon Advantage
If Apple sticks an M1 or even a scaled-down M2 chip in this MacBook, it could still outperform many budget Windows machines. I’ve used laptops with i3 processors in this range, and they often struggle with multitasking. Apple Silicon could offer smoother everyday performance, even on a budget device.
Price & Value – Could Be a Game-Changer
At $599, this MacBook would be priced near Chromebooks and entry-level Windows laptops. If it delivers even half the typical Apple experience, it could be a no-brainer for a lot of people. As a Windows user, I never thought I’d say this—but I might just give this MacBook a shot if it becomes real.
