Design
Chinese brands have seriously stepped up their game when it comes to design. Many of the latest models landing in Europe now look sleek, modern, and surprisingly well put together. I checked out the new BYD Seal recently, and honestly, it wouldn’t look out of place next to a Tesla or a VW ID.4. The clean lines, LED lights, and minimalistic interiors feel very on trend.

These cars are packed with features — and I mean features that usually come as expensive add-ons in European models. You’ll get things like a large touchscreen, 360-degree cameras, wireless charging, and adaptive cruise control as standard in many Chinese models. It reminds me of how smartphones from China became so feature-rich at half the price — same story here, but with cars.
Engine Options
Electric is clearly the focus. Most Chinese brands entering Europe are bringing fully electric or hybrid vehicles. Brands like NIO, XPeng, and BYD are leading the charge, literally. Range anxiety is becoming less of an issue too, with many models now offering over 400 km on a single charge.
Mileage
In terms of energy efficiency, they’re doing quite well. I drove a BYD Atto 3 for a few days and got around 15 kWh/100 km in mixed driving. That’s pretty decent for a compact SUV. For city driving, it feels like a solid choice.
Price
Price is where Chinese brands really shine. You can get a well-equipped EV for under €35,000 — and that includes incentives. Compared to European rivals, it’s a great deal for what you’re getting.
